Past Scholarship Recipients
Edward Friedman
Edward Friedman is a Macauly Honors student majoring in Political Science with Certificates in Public Policy and Human Rights. Committed to improving access for people with disabilities, he has interned at Human Rights Watch, the New York City Council, and the Mayor’s office for People with Disabilities. He is also a member of the Hunter College Senate, New York City Transit’s Paratransit Advisory Committee, and the Junior Board of INCLUDEnyc, a not-for-orofit organization that supports young adults and their families in New York City. Edward plans to obtain a joint JD/MPP to continue to advocate for the rights of people with disabilities.
Thamara Jean
Thamara Jean currently works as an Executive Support Associate at Democracy Works. A double major in Political Science and Media Studies, she also minors in Legal Studies. Tamara is a Thomas Hunter Honors Scholar, Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellow, and recipient of the Eva kaftan Grove Fellowship. In previous semesters, she worked as a communications intern for New American Economy, a Bloomberg Philanthropies non-profit organization, and also served as a volunteer for the Hunter College chapter of Generation Citizen. In the future, she plans to obtain a Ph.D. in Political Theory while working to improve access to higher education and professional development for traditionally underrepresented students.
Florimond le groupil-maier
Florimond Le Groupil-Maier is a junior at Hunter College majoring Political Science and Mandarin. He was recently awarded the U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship to study Mandarin in Suzhou. When he returns in the fall, he will be interning at Kaiser, a New York based government relations firm. He is currently a Research Fellow for the LGBT Social Scene and Public Policy Center a Roosevent House and previously served as a Research Intern at the Office of New Work City Council Member Dan Garodnick. Florimond also interned this spring at Global Futures Group - which spearheaded the Smart Cities Conference NYC in 2017. In the future, he seeks to hone in on the possible fusion between technology and policy as a way to increase the overall well-being, inclusion, and happiness of people in cities around the world.
